Pregnancy & Postpartum

Pregnancy

Why schedule regular massages during pregnancy? Because this is the time in a woman's life when her body is going through constant, day to day changes. With these changes come many aches and discomforts that women are often told they just have to deal with because that's just how pregnancy is, but that is not true! The goals of a pregnancy massage with Marta are not only to keep mom comfortable and alleviate those aches and pains that occur as baby grows and her body changes, but also to prepare mom for delivery. Whether preparing for a vaginal birth or a scheduled C-Section, through consistent massage and bodywork, mom can not only feel more like herself and find relaxation, she can also reduce her risk of complications and prepare her body for the big day!

Benefits of Prenatal Massage:

  • Improves circulation and improves swelling

  • Improves sleep

  • Reconnects mind and body for delivery

  • Lowers levels of depression & anxiety

  • Reduces postpartum & post-op pain

  • Can reduce length of labor & pain

Areas addressed include:

  • intra-oral work, as the jaw is connected to the pelvis

  • external pelvic floor muscles, as they support the increasing weight of baby’s growth

  • belly work to help alleviate the tension created by the growing baby and mom’s ever-changing body

  • opening up the body as a whole, as the expectant mom’s body tends to tighten up, fold inward and pull into a forward posture.

We see expectant moms in all trimesters of pregnancy.

Initial Sessions must be scheduled for 75 or 90 minutes.
